Local Governance at Unity Schools Partnership

The UnitySP Trust Board, through the Articles of Association, has committed to Local Governing Bodies to work in partnership with the Executive and Leadership Teams to fulfil the three core responsibilities of Governance.

These are:

  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils;
  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

We have married these to our Governance Charter and our Scheme of Delegation. These documents, together with the USP Handbook for Local Governance, clearly set out the role and responsibilities of our Local Governing Bodies (LGBs). You can access these documents from the links below or directly from the Unity Schools Partnership website.

Our Local Governing Body

The Governors are responsible for policy and strategy and the Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day running of the school and ensuring that the policy and strategy agreed by the Governors is implemented. The Governing Body has a large number of legal responsibilities and amongst these are ensuring that the National Curriculum is properly delivered, arranging for religious education to be carried out, deciding how to spend the delegated budget and approving the many different school policies, such as those referring to discipline and behaviour and health and safety. In this section of the website you can find out who the governors of our school are.

If you would like to contact the governors, please do so by either telephoning or emailing the school.

Our Interim Governing Body

  • Tim Coulson (Chair)
  • Jo Brown (Safeguarding Governor)

In the interests of transparency, we must publish here up-to-date details of our governance arrangements, including:

  • The structure and remit of the governing body, and the full name of the chair.
  • For each governor who has served at any point over the past 12 months, their full names, date of appointment, date they stepped down (where applicable), and relevant business and pecuniary interests including governance roles in other educational institutions.
  • Attendance records at governing body meetings over the last academic year.

We would love to invite parents and Reception age children for 2025/26 to come and visit our amazing Early Years Provision and meet our wonderful staff!

We have invested extensively in Early Years and are exceptionally proud to be able to offer your child the best possible start to their school journey.

You're welcome to bring your child along as they can take part in various activities in and outside of the classrooms -we want them to start feeling familiar with staff and the environment .

We understand that starting school is a time of mixed emotions for children and parents and we want to offer new parents as well as parents considering a place at Colman Infant School, the opportunity to come and spend some time with us. We are keen to get to know you and your child ahead of their transition to school.
